Spanning two and a half centuries of American history, GUITAR AMERICA 250 is a compelling new project from Aaron Larget-Caplan that explores the evolving musical identity of the United States. Moving seamlessly from iconic works like The Star-Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful to modern classics such as America by Paul Simon and 316 by Eddie Van Halen, the album traces a rich and varied sonic landscape.

Through this journey, Larget-Caplan reflects on the nation’s ideals, contradictions, reinventions, and enduring dreams. Enhancing the musical narrative, the album also incorporates spoken elements—including two poems, an essay, and a poetic interpretation of the Bill of Rights—offering a deeper, more contemplative perspective on the foundations of America.

“I am so happy to be able to share this arrangement and recording of Alan Hovhaness’ ‘Mystic Flute, Op. 22.’ I discovered Alan’s music while living in Arlington for four years including my final year at the New England Conservatory. I had heard his And God Created Whale as a student, but didn’t know his local connection. I made the arrangement at the request of former US head of Edition Peter’s, Gene Caprigolio. It wasn’t until I was driving to Arlington that I realized the work may have been inspired by the Mystic River that separates towns of Arlington and Medford.

When I set out to to create Guitar America 250, I knew I needed to include Hovhaness’ music in some form. His family’s story and his musical life, to me, represent America.” – Aaron Larget-Caplan, Boston, March 2026
