The Friends of Armenian Culture Society (FACS) proudly presents the 74th Armenian Night at the Pops on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Boston’s historic Symphony Hall. Set within the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s season theme, “E Pluribus Unum: From Many, One,” this year’s concert celebrates both Armenian heritage and America’s 250th anniversary, while also marking the 125th anniversary of Symphony Hall and the longstanding tradition of Armenian Night.
The evening will feature acclaimed Yerevan-born violinist Sofya Vardanyan, performing with the Boston Pops Orchestra under the direction of Keith Lockhart. Recognized internationally for her expressive depth and technical brilliance, Vardanyan will present Ode to Freedom by the distinguished American composer Alan Hovhaness, alongside other select works. Her performance brings renewed attention to Hovhaness’s legacy, particularly this powerful composition originally commissioned for the United States Bicentennial and premiered by Yehudi Menuhin in 1976.
Hovhaness, a prolific 20th-century composer born in Somerville, Massachusetts, is celebrated for blending Eastern and Western musical traditions into a deeply spiritual and meditative style. Ode to Freedom reflects themes of resilience, hope, and national identity, making it especially fitting for this milestone anniversary. The program also welcomes the return of Pink Martini, the beloved genre-crossing ensemble known for its vibrant, multilingual repertoire that spans classical, jazz, Latin, and global influences.
Together, these performances promise a rich and dynamic musical experience, honoring cultural heritage while embracing a global artistic perspective. The 74th Armenian Night at the Pops continues its legacy as a meaningful celebration of music, community, and the enduring connections between Armenia and the United States.
